At last, logged in - usual probem of too many passwords.

Now here in Wellington, on Tuesday 9th February. We arrived yesterday after a good flight, as 24 hour plane journeys go. Actually it was good - London - Los Angeles is long but bearable with the assistance of books and the v. sophistocated inflight ents. Also good food. But the Pacific is very big. And coming after the joy of having to go through US immigration despite being a transit passenger was a bit of a trial. What do the Americans want with electronic fingerprints and iris pics of thousands of people who don't visit their country. Where's the balance I say?

On the plane we ran into some Oxford medical students on their way to NZ for electives and, astonishingly, a colleague from the office.

Other good things about plane - slept 5 hours and the plane chased the sunset to LA and the sunrise chased us into Auckland (the sun won both games).

Splendid to hear a shout of "hello" in the corridors at Wellington airport, from Phyllis, then lunch in their garden in sun, and a walk in the bush in the sun, followed by pre-prandial drinks in the garden (in the shade) and splendid family dinner, looking over the harbour, in the sun.

It's good to be visiting wonderful friends, and the summer.

Early bed.

I agree with everything you say. It is very peculiar being suddenly in summertime, seeing roses out, people talking about cutting their lawns, sunhats, cold drinks, open windows, suntan cream. What a joy being on holiday.
